Yoga for Chronic Back Pain can bring relief and set you on a path to increase and maintain your well-being on many levels.

In our sessions together, you'll learn simple, National Institutes of Health proven gentle exercises that strengthen, stretch and rebalance your back. 

These classes were used in a 2005 NIH study that found Viniyoga to work faster than specially designed stretching exercises at alleviating back pain. We will transform your movement patterns, and address the tight & tense muscles that keep you in pain, or keep pulling the back out of alignment.


Just one class may bring relief. Or it may take several weeks as your posture realigns, the muscles develop more resiliency and you resist gravity less.  Gravity becomes your friend instead of pulling on your body in an imbalanced way, making some muscles overwork as others weaken and atrophy.  You'll release tension. And learn tools to use in your everyday life to feel great again.

  Can you work with things other than back pain?

Definitely. The tools of yoga can be adapted to address many needs:
  • neck/shoulder tension
  • hip or knee problems
  • digestive distress
  • anxiety and more.                                                                                                                The applications are as unique as the student. Together we can customize a program to your needs.
I already go to a chiropractor or go for massage~Why would I want to attend? This class is a fantastic addition to a program of massage or chiropractic, because it will anchor in and keep those changes that your practitioner has helped facilitate.  You will also learn to breathe in a healthier way, gently strengthen weak muscles, stretch contracted muscles and  more awaken awareness of your condition.

What if I feel uncomfortable in a group class environment?  Choose a private lesson, or invite a few friends to create your own class.  We'll customize each class to your specific needs ~ by doing so you may even see results faster than those in a group class.

I have scoliosis....what about that?  This is a condition that was not part of the study, and the postures used in the series will not benefit you as quickly as a private lesson geared to the specific needs of scoliosis.  This can be a challenging condition.  While it will not "straighten out your spine," Viniyoga Therapy can provide you with gentle movements that will stretch and strengthen you to bring some relief to the painful areas.
